Swift Police actions and public alertness foiled a robbery attempt and led to the arrest of a 41-year-old man in Sham Shui Po today (May 17).
At about 3.50 pm today, a lone culprit entered a bank at 245 Lai Chi Kok Road and made a request to meet a manager.
A female manager then met the man at the main hall in the bank as requested. The man suddenly threatened her with a knife and demanded $300,000. Upon seeing the incident, a staff member of the bank activated the alarm.
Police officers sped to the scene and persuaded the culprit to surrender. He finally surrendered the knife and was subdued. No property was lost during the incident. The manager sustained slight injuries and was sent to hospital for treatment.
Investigation by District Crime Squad, Sham Shui Po, are continuing. The arrested man, aged 41, is being detained for further enquiries.
