Government statement on Chang Liang-jen's entry application

*********************************************************

In response to media enquiries, a Government spokesman reiterated today (May 17) that the Administration had not yet received any application from Mr. Chang Liang-jen for entry to work in Hong Kong.

"We are thus surprised that the Taiwanese side has continued to comment in public about this matter. Discussing the matter in public is neither appropriate nor constructive.

"Anyone who wishes to work in Hong Kong should submit a formal entry application to the Immigration Department. If Mr Chang has any questions regarding his application, he is advised to approach the Immigration Department through his representative in Hong Kong," he said.

He added that as a matter of policy, the Government would not openly discuss visa or entry applications by individual applicants. "Each application is considered on its own merits and in accordance with existing policies and procedures," he said.
