Three fugitives returned to Hong Kong

*************************************

Three criminal suspects netted in the Mainland were handed over to the Hong Kong Police (HKP) today (May 17).

At a brief ceremony held at the Huangguang Boundary Control Office in Shenzhen this afternoon, representatives from HKP including officers from the Liaison Bureau took custody of the three suspects from the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Bureau (PSB).

Among the trio, a 25-year-old man was wanted by HKP for the murder of a 25-year-old man in Sai Kung on August 31, 1989.

The man was stopped and questioned by officers of Punyu Municipal PSB during a raid in a karaoke on April 29 this year. His wanted status was eventually revealed through the Liaison Bureau of HKP.

Another 34-year-old man was wanted by HKP for a theft case involving $6,000 in Yuen Long in April last year. He surrendered to Shenzhen Municipal PSB on April 20 this year.

The third man, aged 34, was wanted by HKP for a deception case involving $2 million in 1994.

He was arrested by HKP in October, 1994 for setting up a bogus company through which he had obtained a large quantity of electronic parts from 12 different companies without payment. The man later jumped Police bail.

The man was stopped by Shenzhen Municipal PSB on March 29 this year.

A Police spokesman said: "The return of the three fugitives to Hong Kong indicated the exchange of intelligence and close co-operation between HKP and the law enforcement authorities in the Mainland in combating crimes."

The handover of these three suspects had brought to six the total number of suspects returned by our Mainland counterparts so far this year, the spokesman added.
