CS to lead delegation to Brazil

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Anson Chan, who chairs the Asian Games Bid Committee, will lead a delegation to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next week to promote Hong Kong's bid to host the 15th Asian Games in 2006.

On May 23 (Tuesday), just before the annual meeting of the Association of National Olympic Committees, the Chief Secretary and members of the delegation will make a presentation to the Olympic Council of Asia to demonstrate Hong Kong's strengths and its commitment to host a world-class Asian Games.

Delegation members will include Mr Timothy Fok, President of Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SFOC); Mr Karl Kowk, SFOC Vice-president; Mr Pang Chung, SFOC Secretary General; Mr Nicholas Brooke, member of Asian Games Bid Committee; Mr Tony Eason and Mrs Maureen Chan, Head and Deputy Head of the Asian Games Bid Team.

This will be the Chief Secretary's first visit to South America. Apart from gearing up support for Hong Kong's Asian Games bid, Mrs Chan will attend a tourism forum organised by Hong Kong Tourist Association in the morning of May 22. Thereafter, she will give a keynote speech at a business luncheon hosted by Hong Kong Trade Development Council. In addition, there will be calls on political leaders and media interviews during her two-day stay in the city.

Mrs Chan will depart Rio in the evening of May 23 after the presentation and return to Hong Kong on May 25.
