Reclamation at Penny's Bay approved

The Executive Council has authorized the reclamation of approximately 290 hectares of land at Penny's Bay, Lantau Island.

The land will be used for the development and construction of a theme park, a water recreation centre, resort hotels, government/institution/community facilities, roads, railways, ferry piers and associated infrastructure, and construction of about 3,500 metres of seawall.

Subject to issuance of the Environmental Permits by the Director of Environmental Protection, the works are scheduled to start in May 2000 for completion by end of 2008.

About 330 hectares of foreshore and sea-bed will be affected, the extent of which is published in the gazette today (April 14).

A related plan is available for inspection at the Lands Department Survey and Mapping Office, 23rd Floor, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road; the Islands District Office, 20th Floor, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, and the Tsuen Wan District Office, 1st Floor, Tsuen Wan Station Multi-storey Carpark Building, 174-208 Castle Peak Road.

Any person who considers that his interest, right or easement in or over the foreshore and sea-bed involved may be injuriously affected by the works may submit a written claim for compensation to the Director of Lands on or before April 14, 2001.
