Hongkong Post Introduces Postal Remittance Service to Mainland China

*****************************************************

Hongkong Post joined hands with China Post to introduce the reciprocal Postal Remittance Service with the Mainland as from today (30 March 2000), offering customers a direct and convenient way of sending money.

From now on, Hong Kong customers can remit money to the Mainland at any of the post offices throughout the territory. Under the new service, the recipients in the Mainland can receive the remittance in either Renminbi at over 50,000 post offices or US dollars at the designated 232 post offices in the Mainland. The maximum remittance amount per money order is US$1,000. A service fee of HK$40 plus 0.5% of the remitted amount will be levied.

The Assistant Postmaster General (Business Development) Mr. Kingsley LI said, "over the past few years, we have seen a rapid growth in the demand of remittance service between Hong Kong and Mainland. We are very pleased to join hands with China Post to introduce this economical and efficient way of sending money. The new service will particularly benefit customers who have regular needs to send money to their relatives and friends residing in the remote parts of the Mainland."

With over 50,000 post offices providing postal remittance service in the Mainland, the service can reach very remote places and allow recipients to cash their money orders conveniently at nearby designated local post offices.

"For a whole century, we have been reputed for our postal remittance service rendered for customers nationwide. China Post and Hongkong Post now join hands in this reciprocal service, meaning wider coverage of service could be provided by both parties. Customers in the Mainland and Hong Kong can enjoy greater convenience when patronizing our enhanced service", remarked Mr. TAO Liming, General Director of Postal Savings and Remittance Bureau, China Post.

Information leaflets on Postal Remittance Service to Mainland China are now available at all post offices. Customers can call the service hotline on 2921 2222 or visit our website www.hongkongpost.com for further information.
