The Government announced today (Tuesday) the following senior postings:
* Mr Benjamin Tang Kwok-bun, currently Government Printer, will take up the post of Commissioner of Insurance with effect from January 10, 2000. He is succeeding Mr Alan Wong Chi-kong who will be seconded to the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority; and
* Mr David Tsui Kwan-ping, currently Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs, will take up the post of Government Printer with effect from January 24, 2000.
Commenting on the two postings, the Secretary for the Civil Service Mr W K Lam said: "Mr Tang and Mr Tsui have extensive experience in public administration. With their previous experience in departmental management and proven leadership skills, they will surely rise to the challenge of the new postings."
The following are biographical notes on the two officers:
Benjamin Tang Kwok-bun ----------------------
Aged 48, Mr Tang joined the Administrative Service of the Government in October 1974 and rose to his present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B in January 1995.
Over the years, Mr Tang has served in various government offices. Senior postings held include: Deputy Director of Regional Services Department (1992 - 1995); Deputy Secretary in the former Recreation and Culture Branch which was later renamed Broadcasting, Culture and Sports Branch (1995 - 1997) and Deputy Secretary responsible for environmental affairs in Planning, Environment and Lands Bureau ( 1997 - 1998). He took up his present post of Government Printer in March 1998.
David Tsui Kwan-ping --------------------
Aged 55, Mr Tsui joined the Government as an Assistant Labour Officer in July 1968. He was appointed to the Administrative Service in January 1970 and rose to his present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B in December 1989.
Mr Tsui has served in a range of postings in the Administrative Service. Senior positions held include: Deputy Director in the former Medical and Health Department (1986 - 1989); Deputy Secretary-General of the former Office of Unofficial Members of the Executive and Legislative Councils (1989 - 1991); Deputy Commissioner of London Office (1992 - 1995) and Director, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs, New York (1995 - 1998). He has been Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs since January 1999.
