The following is issued on behalf of the Provisional Regional Council and Provisional Urban Council:

A star-studded "Keep Hong Kong Clean" TV Spectacular will be produced to further arouse public awareness of keeping our environment clean.

The TV Spectacular, featuring modernised environmental hygiene facilities, public cleansing by-laws and penalties as well as special keep clean messages, will be broadcast on TVB Jade at 9 pm on Sunday (December 5).

Jointly organised by the Joint Provisional Regional Council/ Provisional Urban Council Keep Hong Kong Clean Steering Committee and the Television Broadcasts Limited as one of the major events of the 1999/2000 Keep Hong Kong Clean Campaign, the programme will disseminate the keep clean messages through games, gag shows and singing performance.

Speaking at today's (Tuesday) press conference to announce details of the show, Chairman of the Steering Committee, Mr Cheng Chun-ping urged members of the public to sustain their keep clean efforts and to let the message of the campaign slogan -- "There is never any excuse to rubbish your home" stride across the new Millennium.

He said: "The Keep Hong Kong Clean Campaign has been implemented for many years and public awareness of keeping the environment clean has been greatly increased."

Mr Cheng pointed out that Hong Kong would become cleaner and healthier if good hygiene practices can be constantly carried out and all refuse is properly disposed of.

Also present at today's press conference were the Vice-Chairman of the Steering Committee, Mr Joseph Chan Yuek-sut and the Executive Producer of the Variety Department, Television Broadcasts Limited, Mr Fred Lam.
