Police remind job-seekers to be cautious

****************************************

Police today (Saturday) remind members of the public that possession of an identity (ID) card relating to another, using or possessing a false instrument and obtaining service by deception are criminal offences liable for prosecutions.

The reminder came after three men were found in possession of the ID card of another person by Police officers on patrol in Tsuen Wan earlier this month.

At about 7 pm on November 14 (Sunday), officers attached to the Emergency Unit of New Territories South intercepted three men near 264 Castle Peak Road.

A search on them resulted in the seizure of an ID card, photocopy of the card, a bank letter, three mobile phone SIM cards and a number of credit card applications as well as contracts with some telecommunication companies, all in the name of a person other than themselves.

Police enquiries revealed that in response to an employment advertisement in a newspaper, two of the arrested persons, aged 22 and 28, were employed by the third, a 30-year-old man.

They were provided with a Hong Kong ID card and other supporting documents, belonging to an unknown person, to apply for SIM cards and credit cards.

The 30-year-old man promised them rewards for every SIM card they successfully applied for.

Further investigations showed that the ID card had been reported lost and the supporting documents forgeries.

The three men were subsequently arrested for possession of an identity card relating to another.

Job seekers are advised to be cautious when they look for jobs and not to engage themselves in any activities that might be against the law.
