The Drainage Services Department (DSD) today (Monday) awarded a $298 million contract for flood protection works in low-lying areas in Ngau Tam Mei, Yuen Long.
The contract covers the first of a two-phase project which includes the construction of a main drainage channel of about 2.3 km from Castle Peak Road near Yau Mei San Tsuen to the new Kam Tin Main Drainage Channel at Tai San Wai.
In addition, an inflatable dam and a low flow pumping station, an irrigation pumping station, four vehicular bridges and five box culverts will be built.
Works on drainage and lighting along roads and ramps will also be carried out.
The remaining works in phase two, scheduled to begin in March 2000, will involve the extension of about 1.7 km long drainage channel on the upstream of phase one.
Works of the phase one contract will start in mid-November for completion in September 2002. Upon completion, the flooding hazard in Ngau Tam Mei will be relieved.
The contract was signed between the Assistant Director/Project and Development of DSD, Mr George Lai Fuk-kan, and a representative of the contractor, the Express Builders Company Limited.
