Notice of no objection to company being deregistered

****************************************************

The Inland Revenue Ordinance has been amended to the effect that the Commissioner of Inland Revenue may issue, on a request made by a person entitled to apply for the deregistration of a private company under section 291AA of the Companies Ordinance, a written notice stating that he has no objection to the company being deregistered.

A spokesman for the Inland Revenue Department today (Wednesday) said that the new section 88B had been added as a result of changes in the Companies Ordinance to deregister defunct, solvent private companies.

Any person who wishes to obtain a "Notice of No Objection" from the Commissioner should submit an application form I.R. 1263 together with a fee of $350.

"This is a 'user-pays' service. The application will be processed upon receipt of the relevant fee which is non-refundable regardless of the result of the application," the spokesman said.

With effect from tomorrow (Thursday), the application form can be obtained:

* on the Ground Floor or First Floor of Revenue Tower, 5 Gloucester Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong;

* by fax at 2598 6001; or

* from the IRD Homepage on the Internet (web site: http://www.info.gov.hk/ird

Enquiries on the service can be made by calling 187 8088.
