The following is issued on behalf of the Provisional Urban Council:
The $141 million Provisional Urban Council Sai Ying Pun Market, built to the latest design with modern facilities, will be officially commissioned tomorrow (Wednesday).
A Council spokesman said that the five-storey market, conveniently located at 43-47 Centre Street, occupied an area of about 1,200 square metres and accommodated a total of 102 stalls providing a wide range of fresh goods including vegetables, fish, meat and poultry.
"The market is designed to the latest standards which include an air conditioning system within market floors, raised platforms in front/at side of each stall, and separate sections within poultry stalls. Other facilities such as a refuse collection point and a loading basin are also provided inside the market building," the spokesman said.
For the convenience of customers, all market floors are easily accessible by escalators and a lift is also provided to facilitate people with disabilities. Closed-circuit television and a public address system are also installed for better management and security.
"The market that opens from 6 am to 8 pm daily is an ideal place for shoppers seeking fresh daily provisions and necessities," the spokesman said.
