The Government announced today (Friday) that the Chief Executive has appointed the Chairman and members of the Board of the Airport Authority for a term of three years from June 1, 1999 to May 31, 2002. The Board will comprise Dr Victor Fung Kwok-king as the Chairman and 12 members.

"We are grateful to the new Chairman and members for agreeing to serve on the Board of the Airport Authority. We trust that the new Board will continue to lead the Authority in operating and developing the airport. This work is crucial for maintaining Hong Kong's position as an international and regional aviation centre," a Government spokesman said.

"We would like to thank Mr Wong Po-yan, the Chairman, as well as the Vice-Chairman and members of the current Board for the time and efforts they have devoted to the work of the Airport Authority. They have made valuable contribution to the airport project in the past few years. Under their steer and management, the Authority has been able to bring the services and facilities of the airport to the present high standards."

"The airport is now running smoothly and efficiently. It has won international recognition as a premier airport in the world. The Board and the management of the Authority as well as franchisees and other operators at the airport have made an important contribution. We believe they will continue to work closely together to enhance the airport services and facilities," the spokesman said.

Under the Airport Authority Ordinance, the Chairman and members of the Board of the Authority are appointed by the Chief Executive. The term of office of the current Board is due to expire on May 31, 1999.
