Draft Luk Keng and Wo Hang Outline Zoning Plan approved

The Chief Executive in Council has approved the draft Luk Keng and Wo Hang Outline Zoning Plan (OZP).

The OZP covers a total land area of about 407.49 hectares (ha), which is predominantly rural in character with attractive landscape and unique ecological features.

Major zonings are as follows :

* About 110.75 ha (27.18 per cent of the total land area) is zoned "Agriculture" to retain and safeguard good agricultural land for agricultural purposes.

* About 30.65 ha (7.52 per cent) is zoned "Village Type Development" to demarcate existing villages and area of land considered suitable for village expansion.

* About 2.53 ha (0.62 per cent) is zoned "Government/Institution/ Community" ("G/IC") for the provision of sites for GIC facilities. Existing facilities include the Sha Tau Kok Police Station, Sha Tau Kok Government Secondary School and Sha Tau Kok Clinic.

* Two sites along Sha Tau Kok Road near Yim Tso Ha and Wo Hang Tai Long, covering about 11.41 ha (2.8 per cent) are zoned "Recreation" for recreational developments.

* About 42.02 ha (10.31 per cent) is zoned "Green Belt" which mainly covers well-vegetated knolls, clusters of mature trees and sloping ground.

* About 196.14 ha (48.14 per cent) is zoned "Conservation Area" to retain existing natural character. It covers two sites of ecological importance, namely, the Luk Keng Marsh and Sheung Wo Hang Fung Shui Woodland, and the Sha Tau Kok Hoi archaeological site.

* The coastline of Sha Tau Kok Hoi, covering about 8.68 ha (2.13 per cent) is zoned "Coastal Protection Area" to retain the attractive coastal features.

* An egretry at Yim Tso Ha beside Luk Keng Road and an excellent breeding site for birds in A Chau, which cover about 2.01 ha (0.49 per cent), are zoned "Site of Special Scientific Interest" to conserve features of special interest.

* The remaining area of 3.30 ha (0.81 per cent) is reserved for major road and other related uses.

The approved OZP No. S/NE-LK/2 is now available for public inspection at the following venues :

- Sha Tin, Tai Po and North District Planning Office,

Ground Floor, Sha Tin Government Offices,

6 Tung Lo Wan Hill Road, Tai Wai; and

- North District Office,

3 Pik Fung Road, Fanling.

Copies of the approved plan are available for sale at the Map Publications Centres of the Survey and Mapping Offices in North Point and Yau Ma Tei.
