Appointments to the Housing Authority

The Secretary for Housing, Mr Dominic S. W. Wong, announced today (Thursday) that the Chief Executive has re-appointed seven serving members and appointed seven new members to the Hong Kong Housing Authority for a term of two years with effect from April 1, 1999. The total number of non-official members remains at 28.

Dr the Hon Rosanna Wong Yick-ming, has been re-appointed as a member and the Chairman of the Housing Authority.

Other re-appointed members are -

Mr Daniel Lam Chun,

Mr Yeung Ka-sing,

Mr Anthony Wong Luen-kin,

Mr Eddy Fong Ching,

Mr Raymond Chow Wai-kam,

Ms Iris Tam Siu-ying

The seven newly appointed members are -

Hon Chung Shui-ming, accountant and banker. Member of Executive Council. Chairman of Hong Kong Housing Society.

Mr George Ng Sze-fook, managing director of trading firm. Chairman of Sai Kung Provisional District Board.

Mr Choi Ngai-min, estate agent. Member of Estate Agents Authority.

Mr Alex Choy Kan-pui, businessman. Chairman of Shatin Provisional District Board.

Hon Ho Sai-chu, director of construction company. Member of Legislative Council.

Mr Ip Kwok-him, teacher. Member of Central and Western Provisional District Board.

Mr Philip Trevor Nunn, solicitor. Member of Building Committee of Housing Authority.

The following members, having served for eight years or more, have retired from the Housing Authority -

Mr Victor So Hing-woh,

Mr Hau Shui-pui,

Hon Leung Chun-ying,

Ms Ho On-nei,

Mr Chan Kam-man,

Mr Nicholas Brooke

"I would like to convey the Government's gratitude to the six retired members for their long public service and for the valuable contribution which they have made to the Housing Authority over the past years," Mr Wong said.

The Chief Executive has also appointed the Deputy Director of Lands (General) as an alternate member of the Housing Authority to the Director of Lands.

"The Housing Authority is a very important provider of public housing in Hong Kong," Mr Wong said. "There is a good balance of professional expertise and community interests in the Housing Authority. Members are appointed in their personal capacity, and include professionals, financial administrators, businessmen, academics, social workers, subsidised home ownership flat resident, and members of the Executive Council, Legislative Council, Provisional Urban Council, Provisional Regional Council and Provisional District Boards."
