Three criminal suspects returned to Hong Kong

*********************************************

Three criminal suspects who had jumped court or Police bail were returned to Hong Kong from the Mainland today (Wednesday).

At a brief ceremony held at the Huanggang Border Control Office in Shenzhen this afternoon, Police officers from Liaison Bureau, New Territories South Region, Eastern District and Tai Po Division took custody of the men from the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau (PSB).

One of the criminal suspects, a 47-year-old man, was arrested for possession of 36 grams of dangerous drugs with a market value of about $10,000 in North Point on August 26, 1997. He was later released on Police bail.

He was arrested again for trafficking in No.4 heroin with a market value of about $170,000 in North Point on September 19, 1997.

The man was subsequently charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs and possession of dangerous drugs, and appeared in Eastern Magistracy on October 20, 1997.

He later jumped the court bail and was wanted by Police.

He was eventually arrested for a drugs-related offence by the Shenzhen PSB on March 21 this year when his wanted status was revealed.

The second suspect, aged 33, surrendered to Police on December 20, 1994 in connection with a case of possession of dangerous drugs in which 1.4 kilograms of No.4 heroin with a market value of about $717,000 were seized from a flat in Kowloon City on December 8, 1994.

He was charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs and appeared in High Court for hearing. He later jumped the court bail and had been wanted by Police since April 24, 1995.

Officers from the Shenzhen PSB arrested the man in Shenzhen in early September 1998 for a drugs-related offence and revealed his wanted status.

The third man, aged 31, was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal damage on July 31, 1998.

The man, together with another one, used offensive language and acted disorderly against Police during a stop-and-search in Tai Po.

During subsequent Police enquiries, the man reportedly damaged a table, a chair and an electric switch inside Tai Po Police Station.

He was granted Police bail and required to report back on August 22, 1998. But he jumped the bail and had been wanted by Police since then.

The man was later arrested in connection with a theft case by Shenzhen PSB on August 3, 1998 and subsequently sentenced to eight months' imprisonment. His wanted status was revealed through Liaison Bureau.

The three men were the fourth, fifth and sixth criminal suspects returned by the Mainland PSB this year.
