Chief Executive's media session

*******************************

The following is a transcript of the media session given by the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, after attending a radio programme this (Saturday) morning:

Reporter: Mr Tung, can I ask two simple questions in English? One is the conflict between LegCo and ExCo. How do you see the future between the two groups? And your comment on the recent scandal of Regional Councillors going up to China....?

Mr Tung: With regard to your second question, I think when you become a public figure, you really have to be very conscious that you are a public figure because the expectation of people at large of the way you behave, the standard that you must adhere to is very, very high. Now that this has happened, it's unfortunate that this has happened, it reminds all the people who are in public service the importance of upholding a very high standard. At the same time, I understand that the Provisional Regional Council on March 31 will have a meeting to examine the ways that they should go ahead. With regard to the first point you raised, it is always our objective to work in a harmonious and cohesive manner with the LegCo and we will continue to do that. And I am sure that many in LegCo will want this to happen also.
