Pok Oi Flyover to be opened to traffic on Friday

************************************************

Traffic at Pok Oi Interchange in Yuen Long will be further improved as the Pok Oi Flyover, a dual two-lane vehicular bridge above the Pok Oi Interchange, will be opened to traffic from 3 pm on Friday (February 5), the Transport Department announced today (Wednesday).

It forms part of the Yuen Long Highway of Route 2, which connects to Tsing Long Highway of Route 3 (Country Park Section) at its northern end.

Motorists travelling between Yuen Long Highway and Kowloon via Route 3 or to the New Territories north via San Tin Highway can make use of the flyover without routing via Pok Oi Interchange.

A spokesman for the department pointed out that the flyover would be designated as an expressway and a speed limit of 80 km per hour would be imposed from the day of the opening.

Motorists are also reminded to observe the general driving rules for expressways when travelling on the flyover. These include:

* keep to the left lane unless overtaking another vehicle, and

* do not U-turn or reverse.

Meanwhile, the temporary traffic management measures implemented in the vicinity of Pok Oi Interchange following the opening of the Route 3 (Country Park Section) will be cancelled, the spokesman noted.

The gap on San Tin Highway southbound to allow motorists from the New Territories north to use Castle Peak Road southbound and Au Tau Roundabout for access to Yuen Long town will be closed.

Affected motorists have to use Pok Oi Interchange to reach Yuen Long town while those heading for Pat Heung should use Fairview Park Roundabout, San Tam Road, Castle Peak Road and Au Tau Roundabout.

In connection with the above change, Kowloon Motor Bus routes 276 and 276P will route via San Tin Highway, Pok Oi Interchange and Castle Peak Road on its journeys to Yuen Long town.

Moreover, the existing bus lane designated on the section of Pok Oi Interchange on the south side between the entry and the exit of Yuen Long Highway will be rescinded. All traffic movements are permitted on this roundabout at all times.

Temporary directional signs which are erected to direct Kowloon bound motorists from Tin Shui Wai to proceed to Route 3 via Yuen Long town will also be removed. Motorists are advised to use Yuen Long Highway for access to Route 3.
