The following is issued on behalf of the Provisional Urban Council:

The Ap Lei Chau Market will come into operation tomorrow (Tuesday) to provide nearby residents a comfortable and leisurely environment for shopping.

The market is the first PUC market designed with full air-conditioning. It occupies the ground and first floors of the newly-completed Ap Lei Chau UC Complex at 8 Hung Shing Street in Ap Lei Chau and covers a floor area of 2,900 square metres.

Equipped with escalators to provide easy access for the shoppers, the market has 55 stalls of various kinds, including 16 fish stalls, 11 meat stalls and four poultry stalls. The remaining 24 stalls sell other wet and dry commodities such as fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, groceries, clothes, newspapers and magazines.

A cooked food centre with a spacious dining area is located on the first floor to provide visitors a wide range of Chinese and Western cuisine.

The market will be open daily from 6 am to 8 pm and the cooked food centre from 6 am to 2 am.
