The following is issued on behalf of the Provisional Regional Council:
Residents of the New Territories will have a golden chance to appreciate the masterpieces to be performed by the prominent musicians Dr Yip Wai-hong, Yang Li and Li Chuan-yun.
Presented by the Provisional Regional Council, the concert by the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will be staged at 8 pm at the Auditoriums of the Tsuen Wan Town Hall on November 28 (Saturday) and Sha Tin Town Hall on November 29 (Sunday) respectively.
The repertoire will feature Khachaturian Adagio from "Spartacus" and Violin Concerto in D Minor, Chausson Poeme, Ravel Tzigane, Dvorak Slavonic Dance in E Minor Op. 46 No.2 and Bazzini Ronde des lutins Op.52.
Li Chuan-yun, a violinist, won the Beijing Youth and Junior Violin competitions at the age of five and to win first prize in the Junior Youth Group Division of the Fifth International Wienizwski Youth Violin Competition afterwards.
In 1993, Li made his debut at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Performing Paganini's 24 Caprices which he later recorded in his first CD. He also won the 1998 Nakamichi Violin Concerto Competition in Aspen.
Yang Li graduated from the Department of Conducting at the Central Conservatory of Music in 1989 and obtained the master of conducting degree from Stuttgart Conservatory of Music in Germany in 1993.
When studying in Germany, Yang had won the Scholarships from the Herbert Von Karajan Fundation. He is now working as a visiting conductor at the International Society of Bach Symphony Orchestra, Sudwestdentsche Philharmonic, Sudwestdentsche Chamber Orchestra and Baden-Badener Symphony Orchestra.
Dr Yip Wai-hong enrolled his doctorate at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas, USA in 1979. He is also the Music Director and Conductor of the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra which he founded in 1976.
Prior to the establishment of the Yip's Children's Choir in 1983, Dr Yip founded the Hong Kong Children's Choir in 1969. Having been a member of the International Advisory Board of the Gina-Bachauer Interational Piano Competition, he was also among the jury at its competition in 1988.
The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra has been founded for over 20 years. During these years, the Orchestra has invited a number of internationally famous conductors, instrumentalists and vocalists to perform in Hong Kong. It also performed in the town halls and civic centres of the Provisional Regional Council and was got support as well as warmly applauded.
Tickets priced at $60, $80 and $100 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets will be offered to full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 or above and the disabled holding concessionary card on a first-come-first-served basis.
