The following is issued on behalf of the Provisional Regional Council:
Guitar New Age, a concert signifying a perfect match of art and technology, will soon be held by the Hong Kong Guitar Performing Ensemble.
Presented by the Provisional Regional Council (Pro RC), the concert will be staged at 8 pm on Saturday (November 14) and November 21 (Saturday) respectively at the Auditorium of North District Town Hall and the Cultural Activities Hall of Tuen Mun Town Hall.
The Hong Kong Guitar Performing Ensemble, formerly known as the See-in Guitar Ensemble, was founded by Frog Chan and other lovers of guitar music in 1989. The Ensemble seeks to place equal emphasis on maintaining artistic standard and audience building by inviting the famous concert guitarist Stephen Chau to be the Ensemble's concertmaster and principal soloist.
Besides assisting young guitarists in their development, the Ensemble focuses on re-arrangement of well-known folk songs, popular tunes and fine classical works; promotion of original works; as well as the introduction of new techniques to the group's performances.
Without exception, Guitar New Age will put emphasis on originality, creativity and innovation in guitar music to which new element like computer and synthesizer will be added. Audience will be able to enjoy works by Minky Lam, Frog Chan and Stephen Chau like the Poetry Pray, the Soulful Strings of the Autumn, and Steps; new arrangement of Chinese folk songs like Cattle in the Meadow, Jasmine and Colourful Clouds Chasing the Moon; special arrangement of popular songs like Hotel California and Laputa.
Tickets are priced at $50 and $70. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 or above and people with disabilities holding a concessionary card on a first-come-first-served basis.
