Tenders for construction of Tsing Yi North Coastal Road

The Highways Department is inviting prequalified contractors to bid for the construction of Tsing Yi North Coastal Road.

The 2.2-kilometre long dual two-lane carriageway, designed by the department, will start at Tsing Tsuen Road and run westward along north Tsing Yi to connect with the North West Tsing Yi Interchange.

Associated slip roads, pedestrian subways, noise mitigation facilities will also be built.

A spokesman for the department said the Tsing Yi North Coastal Road would form part of the principal access to the airport at Chek Lap Kok and serve the continuous growth of traffic demand arising from new town development on Lantau.

It will also help divert through traffic between Lantau and Tsuen Wan areas away from the local at-grade traffic in north Tsing Yi.

Construction works are scheduled to commence in January next year for completion in early 2002.

The department will supervise the construction of the project.
