The Government today (Friday) gazetted the appointment of four new members to the Subventions and Lotteries Fund Advisory Committee (SLFAC) for a period of two years with effect from June 1, 1998.

The four new appointed members are Mr Aaron Wan Chi-keung, Ms Wendy Wu Kit-ying, Mr Henry Lau King-chiu, and Mr Lau Chi-keung.

Mr Aaron Wan Chi-keung is actively involved in a wide range of community services. He has served as the Chairman of the Yan Chai Hospital, the Vice-Chairman the Officer Advisory Board of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Medical Service as well as Committee Chairman of the Community Chest of Hong Kong.

Ms Wendy Wu Kit-ying is the Service Co-ordinator of the children and youth service of the Salvation Army. Ms Wu has extensive experience of youth services, and knowledge of the operation of welfare agencies.

Mr Henry Lau King-chiu, an architect by profession, is also a member of the Appeal Tribunal Panel under the Buildings Ordinance. Given his architectural background, Mr Lau will be able to provide valuable advice on technical building issues at Committee meetings.

Mr Lau Chi-keung is an active member of district organisations, including the Tsuen Wan District Fight Crime Committee and the Tsuen Wan Central Area Committee .

A government spokesman said, "The new members broaden representation on the Committee, drawing together experience from front-line social workers, professionals with building and architectural expertise, as well as members of the public with extensive community service."

Together with the eight incumbent members : Prof Wong Hoi-kwok, Dr Simon Wong Kam-kee, Mr Michael Lai Kam-cheung, Mrs Camille Tang Yeh, Mr Darwin Chen, Mr Wong Che-ming, Dr Leung Man-fuk, Miss Nancy Tsang, the SLFAC will continue to advise applications from welfare agencies for subvention from public funds, for allocations from the Lotteries Fund and for permission to hold flag days.

The Secretary for Health and Welfare, Mrs Katherine Fok, welcomed the new members and looked forward to their contribution in SLFAC.
