Council continued to publish its quarterly newsletter to enhance public awareness of legal aid and public participation in legal aid matters.
The Chairman was invited by the Law Society as one of the Guests of Honour to officiate at the Opening Ceremony of the Law Week 2005 held on 29 October, the fifteenth in the series. The theme of the Law Week 2005 was "Knowing the law, your path to success". Council also met media representatives to brief them on the work of the Council.
During the year Council held eight Council meetings and one working session for want of a quorum. Of these, the meetings held in April, August 2005 and January 2006 were open to members of the public.
Council decided that the Spring Reception 2005/06 be replaced by Council's 10th Anniversary Reception to be held in mid-2006.
Dissemination of Council Information through the Internet
In response to Government's call for openness and transparency of advisory and statutory bodies, Council decided, at its meeting held on 7 October 2005, to upload the following information onto the Internet :
(a) date of appointment of members; and
(b) agenda, papers and minutes of meetings which are not classified.
The above information have been uploaded to Council's webpage since January 2006. Hitherto, Council's website already included information on Council's functions and composition, current members together with a brief description on their occupation/profession, date and agenda of open meetings, recent issues of Council's Annual Reports and Newsletters, and means of contact of Council Secretariat. Inclusion of information under (a) and (b) above seeks to further enhance transparency of the work of the Council.
