Election petition rules to be gazetted

Rules governing matters related to the practices and procedures for the lodgement, trial and termination of election petition in respect of a Legislative Council election will be gazetted tomorrow, a government spokesman said today.

The Legislative Council (Election Petition)Rules have been made by the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal.

"As stipulated in the Legislative Council Ordinance, an election petition may be lodged with the Court of First Instance of the High Court within two months following the publication of the result of the election," the spokesman said.

The Rules will be tabled in the Provisional Legislative Council next Wednesday (January 21).
