E-filing and Interactive service

Trademarks, patents and designs applications can be filed electronically via our e-filing and Interactive Service System at https://iponline.ipd.gov.hk. To become our e-filer, please contact us at 2961 6820 or by email to enquiry@ipd.gov.hk.

Use of 'Ming font' in Online Search and e-filing systems

IPD's has adopted Ming (for ISO10646) font in Online Search and E-Filing systems which can support the following characters :-

• English characters
• Traditional Chinese characters
• Simplified Chinese characters
• Hong Kong Supplementary Characters Set (HKSCS)
• Japanese characters
• Some European characters e.g.
• Some Latin characters

For trademark, patent and design applications, if the name and / or address provided to the Registries contains a special character displayed in 'Ming font', the corresponding record in our computer system will contain the same special character in the specific field. Hence, the special character will be displayed in the corresponding record of online search result.

A search for name of registered owner / applicant by using a search criterion that contains a special character supported by the 'Ming font' will bring up relevant 'special character' records. For example, if the name of a registered owner or an applicant contains the word , a search for will bring up records with name of registered owner or applicant contain the word .

For trademark search, the Trade Mark Registry has not input special characters appearing in trade marks in the field of trade mark text in the registry's records. This is to enable a trade mark search to bring up marks that contain a specific character or its corresponding special character. An example is that a search for trade marks by using the criterion 'ITAU' will bring up both 'ITAU' and marks.
