Hong Kong

 
  • Hong Kong has been free from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) since 2 June 2003 and is a safe place to visit.
Elsewhere
  • Since September 2003, a total of 15 confirmed SARS cases have been reported outside Hong Kong: one in Singapore, one in Taiwan, four in Guangdong, two in Anhui and seven in Beijing. The last case had onset of illness in Beijing on 19 April and was discharged on 21 May 2004.
Measures
  • Today, Hong Kong stands down Alert Level of SARS response system. Alert Level was last activated on 23 April 2004 in response to the report of the SARS case in the Mainland.
  • Hong Kong remains vigilant and prepared. Health screening measures at all immigration control points, including health declaration and body temperature checks for travellers are maintained.
  • Hong Kong maintains close and proactive liaison with health authorities of Mainland and other countries and the World Health Organisation for detection, prevention and control communicable diseases.
  • The public is reminded to remain vigilant and practise good personal and environmental hygiene.
