Email this page
Members of the public continue to enjoy public leisure and cultural services throughout the year after the Government’s move to a five-day week from July 1.

There is no change in the opening hours of over 1,800 leisure and cultural venues managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, including public libraries, performing arts venues, museums, music centres, sports centres, sports grounds, parks, swimming pools, water sports centres and holiday camps. They are open on Saturdays and Sundays as usual.

While shroff and service counters at the 18 District Leisure Services Offices, operator assisted Leisure Link telephone booking service and 15 booking offices of the cultural venues, etc. are not open on Saturdays, the public may book leisure facilities and enrol in leisure activities at Leisure Link counters at over 130 leisure venues, most of which open daily from 7am to 10pm. Leisure Link services are also available on the Internet and via the department’s interactive voice response system.

The opening hours of the Home Affairs Department’s community halls and community centres remain unchanged. These facilities are open for use through bookings by hirers throughout the year.

For members of the public who love to enjoy the beauty of nature, staff of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department continue to provide services at country parks, marine parks and the Hong Kong Wetland Park during holidays. The opening hours of the department’s shroff and counters for application or issuance of permits and licences, such as those for animals’ import and export, remain unchanged. However, the general enquiries counter at the headquarters is closed on Saturdays.

Resource centres of various departments stay open on Saturdays and even on Sundays. Members of the public are welcome to visit these centres, which include:

  • Education and Manpower Bureau: 16 resource centres and services centres for teachers, students and parents, etc.;
  • Food and Environmental Hygiene Department: Health Education Exhibition and Resource Centre (closed on Mondays, Thursdays and public holidays);
  • Environmental Protection Department: Wan Chai Environmental Resource Centre (closed on Tuesdays and public holidays) and Fanling Environmental Resource Centre (closed on Mondays and public holidays);
  • Narcotics Division, Security Bureau: Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre (closed on Wednesdays).

All radio and television programmes and Internet services of Radio Television Hong Kong remain unchanged. The media enquiry desk of the Information Services Department headquarters operates round the clock. Counter services for publications sales and the Photo Library are closed on Saturdays.
