A Wintry January
(28 January 2008)

Under the dominance of the winter monsoon, the temperature in most parts of Guangdong today (28 January) is generally below 10 degrees, and sub-zero in central China and the Changjiang area.

At the same time, moist air originating from the South China Sea and even as far as the Indian Ocean spreads northwards to China. Widespread rain and snow storms result when it meets with the cold air of the winter monsoon (see diagram attached).

In the next few days, as rain and overcast sky continue to affect South China, there will be little modification to the temperature of the cold air. As a result, it will remain cold. The Cold Weather Warning is now in force, people are advised to put on warm clothes.
