United Nations Sanctions

Further to our letter of 13 November 2001, I write to inform you that the Government published in the Gazette on 30 November 2001 an additional list of persons designated by the relevant United Nations Security Council Committee to be individuals and entities who are believed to have connections with Usama bin Laden. This list is relevant to the provision of section 8 of the United Nations Sanctions (Afghanistan) (Arms Embargoes) Regulation, which is mentioned in our letter of 17 October 2001.

Accordingly, authorized institutions should check the names that appear on the list against their records and take appropriate steps to ensure compliance with the said Regulation. Institutions are also reminded to report such accounts to the HKMA and the Joint Financial Intelligence Unit if any of the names on the list is identified.
