Frequently Asked Questions about using the HKMA Website

How do I print the content of the website without the navigation and header bars?

The layout of the HKMA website is designed with frames support. To get print-friendly copies:

  • Simply click once on the content you wish to print (eg. the text body of a press release). This action allows you to select the frame you wish to print.

  • Then select print selected frame from the print menu (which is the default print option from IE and Netscape browsers).

  • Then print, and you will get clean print-outs without the navigation bar or header bar.

How do I know that I am viewing the latest content in the website?

To ensure you get the latest content, click the refresh or reload button on your browser. It is possible that your web browser may load your visited pages from the cache in your hard disk or in the proxy server, so that the web page you have loaded may not be the most recent. If you still cannot get the latest data, try to delete the cache memory and temporary files from the web browser. If there is the proxy server issue, please contact your Information Technology department or Internet Service Provider (ISP) for further assistance.

How can I read a PDF file?

Some of the files available for download on the HKMA website are in PDF (Portable Document Format). To view or print a PDF file, use the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is available for download free of charge from here.

What do I do if there is a prompt saying the document should be viewed as "read only" when I open a Microsoft Word or a Microsoft Excel document?

MS Word and MS Excel documents available on the HKMA website are saved in read-only format. Press “Yes” button in the prompt window to view the document.

How do I view a Microsoft Powerpoint file from the web browser?

When you click the link on the HKMA website to open an MS Powerpoint file, a pop-up window will ask you to open the file or to save it in your hard disk.

If there is no pop-up window, you need to change the configuration first by following the following steps:

  1. Open the File Explorer on your PC, select Tools, then click Folder Option.

  2. In the File Types tab, find the extension of PPT (Microsoft Powerpoint Presentation).

  3. Press edit, and check the Browse in the same window checkbox.
