The Hong Kong Monetary Authority released a discussion paper on 7 September 2001 on funding and premium assessment for the Deposit Insurance Scheme to seek views from the industry on the funding arrangements for the scheme.
The Executive Council approved on 24 April 2001 in principle the proposal to introduce a deposit insurance scheme in Hong Kong and requested the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to undertake more detailed work with a view to producing a set of final recommendations on how the scheme should be structured.
