and Import and Export
(Strategic Commodities) Regulations

The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) Section set up in April 1999, is placed under the Other Scientific Services Group of the A&AS Division. The Section is charged with the duty of providing technical support for the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). In addition, the Section also furnishes technical services to the Trade and Industry Department and Customs and Excise Department with regard to the import and export control of strategic commodities in the HKSAR.



Responsibilities

The Section is responsible for:

  • giving technical advice to the relevant departments and bureaux regarding the enforcement of the Chemical Weapons (Convention) Ordinance, which provides for the legal basis for the implementation of the CWC in the HKSAR.
  • giving technical assistance to the enforcement of the Import and Export (Strategic Commodities) Regulations under the Import and Export Ordinance.

Quality Assurance

Percentage of quality control samples analyzed is estimated to be 15%.


Key Instruments

Major instruments in the laboratory such as Gas Chromatograph, High performance liquid chromatograph and Mass Spectrometer, etc are available to the Section for testing of samples if required.
