Famous Shanghainese restaurant chain expands in Hong Kong

One of Shanghai's most famous restaurant chains, Wang Jia Sha, has opened a second outlet in Hong Kong.

Representing an investment of over HK$6 million, the new restaurant in Aberdeen employs some 70 local staff.

Invest Hong Kong provided direct practical assistance to the company, and facilitated the implementation of the investment project.

"Hong Kong's cosmopolitan lifestyle, skilled labour force and transparent legal system make it an ideal place for Wang Jia Sha's expansion, so we plan to open another eight restaurants in Hong Kong," the Managing Director of Wang Jia Sha, Mr Chan Hoi Po, said today (August 27).

"Our success in Hong Kong has also allowed us to build a solid foundation for our future expansion to international markets," Mr Chan said.

The acting Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Ms Ophelia Tsang, said the company's decision to open a new restaurant was a clear indication that the impact of SARS on the hospitality industry was diminishing and business was virtually back to normal.

"Wang Jia Sha's expansion is an excellent example of a successful investment in Hong Kong by a Mainland company," she said.

The restaurant chain has its roots in old Shanghai's Wang Jia Ku district, where the first outlet was established in 1945.

Invest Hong Kong, a government agency dedicated to attracting and retaining foreign direct investment in Hong Kong, provides free information, advice and support services, helping foreign and Mainland investors to gain full advantage of the city's ever-expanding business potential.
