Hong Kong wins first gold at Special Olympics

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, today (June 24) congratulated the Hong Kong delegation for winning the first gold medal for Hong Kong in the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Dublin.

Hong Kong athlete, Cheung Kim-kiu took out gold in the Men's 100 metres freestyle championships.

Mr Tung said he was deeply impressed by the remarkable performance of Mr Cheung.

"I am confident that our athletes will continue to try their best and bring honour to us," he said.

The Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr Patrick Ho, also sent a congratulatory letter to the Hong Kong delegation.
