Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine and suspected methamphetamine (with photos)

     Hong Kong Customs seized about 1.1 kilograms of suspected cocaine and about 2.5 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine in total at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (September 14) and today (September 15) with an estimated market value of about $2.4 million.

     A 58-year-old male passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Cameroon via Ethiopia yesterday. The man was found suspicious upon Customs clearance and was escorted to hospital for examination. The man discharged the suspected cocaine yesterday and today. He was then arrested.

     The man was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts on September 17.

     Meanwhile, three 29-year-old female passengers arrived in Hong Kong from Malaysia today. During Customs clearance, suspected methamphetamine were seized in their possession and they were arrested.

     Investigation is ongoing.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
