SEN attends Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (with photos)

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, today (April 12) attended the 2018 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF) in Macao. He also took the opportunity to visit a renewable energy installation in a local university and to better understand Macao's environmental work on various fronts.

     In the morning, Mr Wong officiated alongside officials of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government and other guests at the opening ceremony of the MIECF, during which the former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Ms Christiana Figueres, gave a keynote speech on this year's theme "Shaping of Eco-Cities for Inclusive Green Economy". Following the opening ceremony, Mr Wong paid a courtesy call on the Secretary for Transport and Public Works of the Macao SAR, Mr Raimundo Arrais do Rosário, to exchange views on energy policies and various environmental subjects. Afterwards, Mr Wong toured the exhibition and exchanged views with Hong Kong exhibitors.

     After attending a networking luncheon hosted by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Mr Wong called on the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector of the Macao SAR to further learn about the grid-connected photovoltaic arrangement in Macao and visited the solar photovoltaic system at the University of Macau.

     Mr Wong also met with the Director-General of the Environmental Protection Department of Guangdong Province, Mr Lu Xiulu, in Macao to discuss ways to enhance co-operation on environmental protection.

     After joining a green dinner to be hosted by the Macao SAR Government in the evening, Mr Wong will conclude his visit and return to Hong Kong.
