Another demolition work contractor of Redhill Peninsula convicted for illegal disposal of construction waste
******************************************************************************************
The responsible person of Wing Tak Constructions and Engineering, the contractor for demolition work of Redhill Peninsula, was fined $8000 by Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (April 9) for the illegal disposal of construction waste on the pavement, which contravened the Waste Disposal Ordinance (WDO). This is the second conviction for illegal disposal of construction waste this year involving a works contractor of Redhill Peninsula.

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) received a report in September last year from a member of the public that construction waste had been illegally deposited on the pavement of Pak Pat Shan Road outside Redhill Peninsula in Tai Tam. The EPD traced the contractor involved according to the vehicle information provided by the public. Following investigation and evidence gathering, the EPD confirmed that the contractor had violated the WDO and subsequently prosecuted the responsible person of the company concerned. As another demolition work contractor of Redhill Peninsula was also convicted of illegal disposal of construction waste in January this year, the EPD has once again urged the property management company of the Redhill Peninsula to strengthen its management of renovation contractors and step up patrols, so as to ensure that construction waste generated from works projects is properly handled.

An EPD spokesman reminded members of the construction and the transportation sectors that they should dispose of construction waste properly in accordance with the law and should not deposit such waste in public places. Under the WDO, it is an offence to dispose of waste in a public place or on government land or without the permission of the land owners. First-time offenders are liable to a maximum fine of $200,000 and six months' imprisonment.
