*********************************************************************
The Hong Kong Flower Show 2018 will be held at Victoria Park from tomorrow (March 16) until March 25, running from 9am to 9pm daily. This year's flower show features "Joy in Bloom" as the main theme and the dahlia is the theme flower.

Some 400 000 flowers, including about 40 000 dahlias, will transform Victoria Park into a colourful wonderland throughout the show period.

Over 260 organisations including 103 exhibitors from 18 countries, namely Australia, China, Estonia, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam, will take part in the show. They will showcase exotic flowers, landscapes and floral art displays.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will present a spectacular exhibit entitled "Heart of a Child.A World of Great Beauty" with a floral display in the shape of a heart and a sculpture of ribbons as the focal point, depicting the moment of joy when a child opens a present. The front of the parterre features three arched entrances leading to Fairyland to meet Thumbelina, a pair of flamingoes and a loveable cherub.

A Special Plants and Edible Plants Garden on the showground will display an array of special dahlia varieties from different places with wide-ranging floral forms including single-flowered dahlias, decorative dahlias, ball dahlias, pompom dahlias, cactus dahlias and many more. As edible plants are gaining popularity, some common edible plants such as beetroot, fig, loquat and radish will be on display to give visitors a closer look at what they are.

Visitors can enjoy the visual feast and take photographs from a variety of angles and perspectives. Highlight spots will include a three-dimensional floral wall made up of colourful plants in a simple and neat design, displaying the beauty and harmony of nature.

There will also be a 12-square-metre tulip display, made up of around 14 000 blooming bulbs arranged in the shape of petals, while a mosaiculture display, "Blossom Parade", will show a grand marshal brandishing his baton and leading lovely animals in a parade.

In the evening, there will be 10-minute light shows with music at 7.30pm and 8.30pm at the floral displays along the central axis of the showground to create a harmonious atmosphere.

To help protect the environment, visitors are encouraged to bring their own bottles and bags. The showground will also be enhanced with QR codes to obtain information on the floor plan, the theme flower and the landscape displays.

The flower show is the first government fee-charging event to accept electronic tickets bought via an e-wallet. Admission tickets are available for sale through the mobile application "Tap & Go" and at the entrances to the Victoria Park showground throughout the show period. Octopus can also be used to pay for admission. Tickets are also available for sale at the LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices until March 23.

For enquiries, please call 2601 8260 or visit the flower show webpage www.hkflowershow.hk/en/hkfs/2018/index.html.

The flower show is organised by the LCSD. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is supporting the flower show for the sixth consecutive year and has been the Major Sponsor of the flower show since 2014.
