Hong Kong film opens the CinemAsia Film Festival 2018 in Amsterdam (with photos)

     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) is promoting Hong Kong film culture in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in collaboration with CinemAsia Film Festival 2018. The CinemAsia Film Festival is dedicated to broadening the horizons of the Dutch film audience by offering the best of contemporary Asian film. 

     Hong Kong director Raman Hui's "Monster Hunt 2" (2018) opened the CinemAsia Film Festival on March 6 (Amsterdam time). At the opening ceremony of the Festival, Deputy Representative of the HKETO, Brussels Miss Fiona Chau, highlighted Hong Kong’s success in filmmaking. "Hong Kong has one of the largest and most dynamic film entertainment industries in the world. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government will continue to nurture more professional talents for the film industry through the Government-financed Film Development Fund to assist them to meet market demands and to foster the long-term development of the local film industry," Miss Chau said.

     "Over the years, Hong Kong has developed into a leading arts and cultural hub in the region, with leading edge in key areas of creative industries like film, television, music, design, architecture, advertising, digital entertainment, publishing and printing. The HKSAR Government is dedicated to encouraging the healthy development of creative industries. To take forward the initiative announced by the Chief Executive in her maiden Policy Address delivered in last October, the HKSAR Government will inject another HK$1 billion into the CreateSmart Initiative to strengthen support for the development of the creative industries, especially in nurturing youths and helping start-ups," Miss Chau added.

     There will also be a special in-competition screening of Hong Kong director Tam Wai-ching's movie "In Your Dreams" (2017). Miss Chau remarked that "In Your Dreams" was one of the winners of the First Feature Film Initiative of Create Hong Kong, a scheme launched in 2013 to help young filmmakers produce their first film with funding from the Film Development Fund.   

     Three more Hong Kong feature films will be screened at the CinemAsia Film Festival 2018, including Jonathan Li's "The Brink" (2017), Doris Wong's "New Turn" (2018) and Wong Tsz-ying's "Losing Sight of a Longed Place" (2017). Tam Wai-ching and Doris Wong will attend the Festival and meet with the audience after screening of their films. 
 
     The CinemAsia Film Festival 2018 is being held at the Filmtheater Kriterion and the Rialto in Amsterdam from March 6 to 11. More information can be found at cinemasia.nl/en/films2018.
