Equine Disease Free Zone and Guangzhou Equine Sport Training Centre Working Group holds first meeting (with photo)

     The Equine Disease Free Zone and Guangzhou Equine Sport Training Centre Working Group is holding its first meeting today and tomorrow (March 6 and 7).
 
     The Working Group has been established in accordance with the co-operation agreements signed between Mainland authorities and Hong Kong in December last year. It comprises expert representatives from authorities and organisations from the Mainland and Hong Kong, including the Ministry of Agriculture; the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine; the Guangdong Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau; the Shenzhen Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau; the Department of Agriculture of Guangdong Province; the Bureau of Agriculture of Guangzhou Municipality; the Guangzhou Animal Health Inspection Institute; the Harbin Veterinary Research Institute; the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) of Hong Kong; and the Hong Kong Jockey club (HKJC).
 
     A spokesperson for the AFCD said, "The Working Group will oversee the operation and maintenance of the Conghua Equine Disease Free Zone (EDFZ) and the Guangzhou Equine Sport Training Centre of the HKJC, aiming to aid the smooth commissioning of the Centre to be held in the third quarter this year. It will also provide professional advice on the development of the Conghua EDFZ and the Centre."
 
     Different Expert Sub-groups are established under the Working Group specifically focusing on aspects including horse movement, disease outbreak and contingency measures, disease surveillance, animal feed and veterinary drugs.
 
     At the meeting, members of the Working Group will discuss the latest situation regarding horse movements into and out of the Conghua EDFZ and customs clearance, surveillance and testing methods of equine diseases, strengthening officers' training on equine, import and export of feeds, wise use of drugs and vaccination, as well as other relevant matters. They will also exchange views on arrangements to be implemented after the official commissioning of the Centre.
