**********************************************************
The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, today (February 8) visited a start-up and a co-working space and listened to views of District Council members in Central and Western District.

Accompanied by the District Officer (Central and Western), Mrs Susanne Wong, Mr Yang toured the online outfit and accessories rental platform Yeechoo. Co-founders of Yeechoo introduced to Mr Yang their business model of a shared closet and online operating model. Yeechoo is among the first batch of Hong Kong start-ups to receive investments from the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund. One of its co-founders was an honouree on the Forbes "30 Under 30 Asia 2017" list for her achievements in the retail and e-commerce category.

Yeechoo is an incubatee of the Cyberport Incubation Programme. Over the years, Cyberport has implemented a number of measures and programmes including the Creative Micro Fund, the Accelerator Support Programme and the Cyberport Investors Network to support technology start-ups at different stages of their development. There are over 1 000 companies in the Cyberport community now. The Cyberport Incubation Programme has nurtured many successful enterprises such as GoGoVan, TNG, Yeechoo, Lynk and Origami.

Mr Yang said he hoped that with Cyberport's Smart-Space co-working space of around 20 000 square feet in Tsuen Wan coming into service, more technology start-ups will benefit and further push the development of innovation and entrepreneurship.

He then proceeded to the co-working space Paperclip HK, where its founder gave a brief account of its business model, as well as the various workshops, mentorship and accelerator programmes offered to entrepreneurs.

Mr Yang said that co-working spaces have been gaining momentum in Hong Kong in recent years, with the number of co-working spaces exceeding 50. Internationally renowned co-working space operators are expanding their presence in Hong Kong. Traditional companies work alongside energetic start-ups at co-working spaces, accelerating the innovation and technology ecosystem and disrupting the office leasing market. He added that co-working spaces provide not just cool and flexible workspace. More importantly, co-working spaces enrich the technology community by boosting collaboration and exchange of ideas, inspiring creativity and facilitating business networking.

Before concluding his district visit, Mr Yang met with members of the Central and Western District Council to listen to their views on district affairs and innovation and technology developments.
