LegCo Members visit original site of Hong Kong Central Hospital and historic buildings of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Compound in Central (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     Legislative Council (LegCo) Members conducted a site visit to the original site of the Hong Kong Central Hospital (the site) and the historic buildings of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (HKSKH) Compound in Central today (February 6) to follow up on a case about the proposed construction of a private hospital by HKSKH on the site.

     Accompanied by representatives of the Development Bureau, the Planning Department, the Antiquities and Monuments Office and HKSKH, Members walked along the pavement of Lower Albert Road to observe the surroundings, including the width of the pavement in front of the site and the traffic conditions in the vicinity. 

     Members also visited the historic buildings within the Compound, including three Grade 1 historic buildings, namely the Church Guest House, the Bishop's House and the St. Paul's Church, as well as a Grade 2 historic building, the Old Sheng Kung Hui Kei Yan Primary School.

     The site visit was attended by Ms Tanya Chan (Convenor) and Duty Roster Members, Dr Cheng Chung-tai and Mr Kwong Chun-yu as well as invited Member, Mr Chu Hoi-dick.
