***********************************************
The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Patrick Nip, visited Wong Tai Sin District today (January 25), touring an elderly centre and visiting elderly families to understand the life and needs of the elderly in the district. He also met with members of the Wong Tai Sin District Council (WTSDC) to exchange views on district matters.

Visiting the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Wong Tai Sin District Elderly Community Centre, Mr Nip toured the centre's facilities and was briefed by staff members on its services. He also chatted with the elderly and volunteers who joined the centre's activities to learn about their daily lives.

Mr Nip said he was delighted to learn that with neighbourhood and community support, the centre offers a wide range of services to the elderly in the district to help them adapt to their elderly life and encourage them to unleash their potential to serve the community. The centre has also established collaborative networks with different service units in Wong Tai Sin to promote community care for the elderly.

Accompanied by the Chairman of the Wong Tai Sin District Council, Mr Li Tak-hong, and the District Officer (Wong Tai Sin), Ms Annie Kong, Mr Nip visited two elderly families in Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate to express his regards and to understand their needs and health conditions. He also presented gift packs to these families. Mr Nip said he was pleased to learn that the elderly had made good use of their spare time to join community activities and volunteer work, demonstrating the spirit of active participation and continuous learning of elderly people.
