SFH to attend tripartite hygiene and health co-operation conference in Huizhou
******************************************************************************
The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, today (January 8) led a delegation to Huizhou to attend the first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Hygiene and Health Cooperation Conference to be held tomorrow (January 9) to promote closer ties with the Mainland and Macao health authorities.

The conference is co-organised by the Health and Family Planning Commission of Guangdong Province, the Food and Health Bureau, and the Health Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government. The conference, with the theme "To form a health consortium in the Bay Area by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao", aims to promote experience exchange and co-operation among the three places on matters relating to hygiene and health in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, so as to join forces to meet the challenges brought about by health-related issues.

At the opening ceremony tomorrow, Professor Chan will deliver a speech and sign a framework agreement on co-operation among the three places on hygiene and health. Later in the day, she will attend a convention and a roundtable discussion with senior health executives.

Members of the Hong Kong delegation include the Director of Health, Dr Constance Chan; the Chairman of the Hospital Authority (HA), Professor John Leong; and the Chief Executive of the HA, Dr Leung Pak-yin.

Professor Chan will return to Hong Kong in the evening on January 9. The Under Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Chui Tak-yi, will be the Acting Secretary for Food and Health during Professor Chan's absence.
