Film Archive offers free screening to complement movie poster exhibition
************************************************************************
To complement the upcoming "More Than a Piece of Paper: Rediscovering Hong Kong Movie Posters" exhibition, the Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will screen "The Posterist" (2016) on February 3 at the HKFA Cinema. Admission is free with tickets.

Directed by Hui See-wai, "The Posterist" is a documentary which looks back on the creative career of renowned Hong Kong movie poster artist Yuen Tai-yung, including how Yuen's works helped to establish the distinctive style of Hong Kong movie posters. Free tickets will be distributed at the enquiry counter of the HKFA starting tomorrow (January 3) on Mondays and from Wednesdays to Sundays from 10am to 8pm. Each person can receive up to two tickets on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last.

The "More Than a Piece of Paper: Rediscovering Hong Kong Movie Posters" exhibition will be held at the HKFA Exhibition Hall from January 12 to March 18 with free admission. Nearly 100 movie posters of different genres dating from the 1960s to recent years will be on display, including "Happy Wedding" (1959), "The Way of the Dragon" (1972), "The Beasts" (1980), "True Colours" (1986), "God of Gamblers II" (1990), "Visible Secret 2" (2002), "Naked Ambition" (2003), "Re-cycle" (2006), "Life Without Principle" (2011) and "A Simple Life" (2012). An "experience zone" will also be set up displaying a model Nathan Road in bygone days, lined with movie posters and a bus stop with a huge horror movie poster. The exhibition will enable visitors to appreciate the aesthetics of movie poster design and also to learn about the marketing power of movie posters through the experience zone and an interactive game. Admission is free.

The HKFA will also hold two seminars involving guest speakers such as veteran movie poster artists, collectors, a director and film critics at the Cinema. The first, entitled "The Spellbinding Power of the Movie Poster", will be held at 4.30pm on February 3 with speakers Lo Che-ying, Yuen Tai-yung, Hui See-wai and Lam Ka-lok. The second seminar, entitled "The Art and Function of Movie Posters", will be held at 4.30pm on February 10 with speakers Pierre Lam, Jimmy Keung and Wong San-mun.
