Issue of three new denominations of 2014 Hong Kong definitive stamps and holiday arrangements for January 1 (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
     Hongkong Post today (December 13) announced that three new definitive stamps in denominations of $2.60, $3.40 and $4.90 will be released for sale with associated philatelic products on January 1 (Monday). The designs of the new stamps are in line with those of the definitive stamps issued in 2014, based on the distinctive landforms and landscapes of the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark.

     Located in the eastern part of Hong Kong and extending from the northeast New Territories to the Sai Kung area, the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark is a single entity that comprises two regions, namely, the Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region and the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region, each with its own unique geological features. The three new definitive stamps are:

  • $2.60 – Ma Shi Chau, which has colourful rocks and a rich variety of geological compositions, making it a famous site for geological study in the territory;
  • $3.40 – Yan Chau, showcasing a landform termed a supratidal platform, a coastal erosion landscape rarely found in Hong Kong; and
  • $4.90 – Fa Shan, the core area for densely packed hexagonal rock columns, which can reach up to 100 metres in height.

     Official First Day Covers at $1.30 each for small-sized covers and $2.30 each for large-sized covers will be on sale at all post offices from tomorrow (December 14). The stamps and associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from tomorrow to December 20.

     All post offices will be closed on January 1 except for the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office, Tuen Mun Central Post Office and the Airport Post Office. The General Post Office will be open from 9am to 5pm, while the Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office will be open from 9am to 1pm. Normal business hours from 8am to 5pm will be maintained by the Airport Post Office. General postal services will be provided. Details of services available will be advertised at the respective post offices.

     There will be no mail delivery on the public holiday on January 1. One mail collection will be made for the posting boxes of the above six post offices.

     Information about this definitive stamp issue and associated philatelic products is available on the Hongkong Post website at www.hongkongpost.hk and via the Hongkong Post mobile app.
