Hong Kong has once again triumphed in the Asia Pacific Information and Communications Technology Alliance (APICTA) Awards, attaining a total of nine awards, out of 173 entries, in the Awards held from December 7 to 10 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Hong Kong delegation collectively won four Winners and five Merits in nine of the contesting categories of the Awards, dubbed the Oscars of the ICT arena in the Asia-Pacific region. The 32-strong Hong Kong delegation, organised by the Hong Kong Computer Society and led by the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Allen Yeung, comprised ICT practitioners as well as primary, secondary and tertiary students.

Mr Yeung praised the encouraging results achieved by Hong Kong contestants. He said, "The outstanding performance of the delegation from Hong Kong, being one of the regions with the most awards this year, has once again proved the ingenuity and excellence of Hong Kong's ICT industry, professionals and students. The Government is committed to the continuous advancement of Hong Kong's ICT capability and innovation in all walks of life. Its benefits could be readily experienced by all members of our society."

Mr Yeung added, "To keep the momentum of our ICT practitioners and students in striving for innovation and excellence, we organise the annual Hong Kong ICT Awards to recognise and promote their efforts and achievements in ICT solutions and applications. We also encourage and support their participation in regional and international competitions so as to help enrich their exposure and extend their reach to the international market."

The APICTA Awards attracted contestants from 16 participating economies. The Government has been sponsoring Hong Kong student entrants and non-profit community organisations to participate in the Awards for years. This year, a total of six students and two members of non-profit community organisations received government sponsorship to join the event.
