Chinese opera activities, carnivals and calligraphy and painting exhibition among highlights of 20th anniversary celebration (with photos)

     Chinese opera activities, two carnivals and a calligraphy and painting exhibition will be held in the coming days as part of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
 
​     Co-presented by the China Academy of Culture, the Hong Kong Association of Cantonese Opera Scholars and other organisations, the Series of Activities on the Arts of Sit and Mei (South and North of China Performing Arts) will pay tribute to Cantonese opera master Sit Kok-sin and Peking opera master Mei Lanfang.
 
​     The International Conference on Arts of Sit and Mei, with renowned speakers, will be held on December 16 (Saturday) from 10.30am to 6pm at the Lecture Hall of the Hong Kong Space Museum. Admission is free with limited seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.
 
​     Following the conference will be "Performance on Chinese Opera Master Mei Lanfang", to be held on the same date and at the same venue from 8pm to 9.30pm. Admission is free, and tickets will be distributed at the venue 30 minutes before the performance on a first-come, first-served basis.
 
​     Another highlight event of the programme is an exhibition showcasing the artistic life of Sit Kok-sin with valuable exhibits from the Guang Dong Ba He Assembly Hall. The exhibition will run from December 17 (Sunday) to December 29 at the Exhibition Hall at 1/F, Low Block, Hong Kong City Hall. Opening hours are 11am to 8pm, except on December 17, when the exhibition will open at 3pm after the opening ceremony.

​     To encourage solidarity in fighting crime, the "Fight Crime & Share Joy" Carnival in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the HKSAR, presented by the Kowloon City District Fight Crime Committee, the Kowloon City District Office, the Kowloon City Police District and the Sau Mau Ping Police District, will be held on December 16 (Saturday) from 1.30pm to 5.30pm at the soccer pitch of Carpenter Road Park, Kowloon City.
 
​     The event will be open to the public for free. Programmes will include award presentation, variety shows and game booths. For enquiries, please call 2264 2107.

​     Organised by the Sham Shui Po District Committee on Promotion of Civic Education, the Sham Shui Po District Civic Education Carnival will be held on December 16 (Saturday) from 1.30pm to 5pm at Maple Street Playground.
 
​     Admission is free. Activities promoting civic education and the Basic Law will include game booths, handicraft workshops, an inflatable slide and stage performances. Game vouchers can be obtained at the Sham Shui Po District Office's Home Affairs Enquiry Centre and several local community centres from now and at the venue on the day of the event on a first-come, first-served basis.

​     More than 120 selected art pieces will be showcased at an exhibition entitled "The Fourth Dimensional Calligraphy and Painting" for public appreciation. The exhibition will run from December 11 to 13 (Monday to Wednesday) at the Exhibition Gallery, 4/F, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui, with opening hours as follows:
 
December 11: Noon to 7pm
December 12: 10am to 7pm
December 13: 10am to 5pm

​     To share the joy of the 20th anniversary, the HKSAR Government is joining hands with different sectors to organise a wide variety of activities and events under the theme "Together • Progress • Opportunity".

      Altogether, more than 900 events and activities have been staged by the Government and different sectors since early 2017.
