************************************************

The Sai Kung street art fair "Sai Kung Art and About" will be held from 12.30pm to 6pm this weekend (December 9 and 10) in Sai Kung Town Centre. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

More than 70 artists will showcase their work and exchange views with visitors at booths on Mei Yuen Street. Some artists will conduct mural and ground painting and create installation art at Sha Tsui Path, Man Nin Street and Po Tung Road, as well as join students of Sai Kung District to decorate lamp posts along the Sai Kung Promenade with paintings.

There will be a wide array of free workshops and demonstrations including creation of a long watercolour painting, live painting on piano, Chinese ink painting with Chinese music performance, speed painting, leaf painting and activities to make DIY canvas bags, creative ornaments and more. A pastel drawing and graffiti zone will be set up for visitors to express their creativity on pavements and walls, and musicians will perform to enhance the artistic atmosphere of the leisurely weekend for visitors.

Jointly organised by the Sai Kung District Office, the Working Group on Arts and Cultural Activities under the Sai Kung District Council (SKDC) and the Sai Kung District Community Centre (SKDCC) of the Sai Kung Rural Committee (SKRC), the event aims to promote art and creativity by providing a free platform for artists to showcase their artworks in an outdoor public area with a view to celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. An indoor art exhibition will also be held at Sai Kung Jockey Club Town Hall from tomorrow (December 8) to December 12. The opening ceremony will be at 2pm on Saturday (December 9) at Mei Yuen Street. Officiating guests at the ceremony will include the District Officer (Sai Kung), Mr David Chiu; the Chairman of the SKDC, Mr George Ng; the Chairman of the SKRC, Mr Wong Shui-sang; the Chairman of the SKDCC, Mr Yuen To-shing; and the originator of the art fair idea, Mr Tony Cheng.
